Boston Jews petition for creation of a cemetery.

April 29, 1844

Members of Temple Ohabei Shalom petition the city to set aside a corner of an existing East Boston cemetery for their use. When the city refuses, some 40 members of the congregation purchase land and establishes their own cemetery at 147 Wordsworth Street [corner of Byron Street and Homer Street-MM].
